Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation seeks public info in death of woman
The Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation is asking the public to assist police in their investigation of the death of a woman in the community. Meanwhile RCMP have contacted the band asking for the public’s trust in the matter.
Details of the death have not been released although based on an earlier emergency statement from the band Saturday afternoon, it seems to be related to a traffic incident. However, in a statement of condolences to family and friends posted on the band’s community pages July 6, councillor Kevin Seesequasis said, in part, that Jessica Cameron would always be remembered as “someone who always shared a smile. She will be missed.”
Seesequasis said he recognized this was a traumatic and heartbreaking time in the community and he had been in close contact with the RCMP at all levels, “and they assure me they are working hard on this case. “
He said the police had indicated they were experiencing some difficulty with witnesses and their participation.
