Thieves target old cemetary

A woman who has been helping maintain the grounds at Lindsay Cemetary for the past six years, says it’s very frustrating to think someone would target the property.

Over the weekend, someone broke the lock of the maintenance shed, and stole the riding lawn mower, gas trimmer, gas leaf blower and gas cans. Patty Sinclair-Jenkins told paNOW all the work her group does at the cemetary is done is volunteer, and they have no income.

“We didn’t have insurance on the building or the contents and now we have no equipment,” she said.

When asked what her group will do, Sinclair said her husband will likely just do what he has done in the past and haul their own lawn tractor from their own home. Sinclair – Jenkins said the advantage of having equipment at the cemetary was they could get more volunteers to help out.

“There would be people coming by, driving by from the golf course or whatever, and they would stop and help for half an hour and now we have no equipment so its going to be tough,” she said

The cemetary is located southwest of Prince Albert, off Tower Road and has been around since the early 1900’s. Sinclair – Jenkins said incidents like this show no place is sacred from thefts. Prince Albert RCMP have confirmed they are investigating.
