Three injured, hiker after severe storm smashes Saskatchewan campground
GOODSOIL, Sask. — A windstorm that may have been a tornado snapped trees and caused numerous injuries at a Saskatchewan provincial park that was full of campers who were enjoying the Canada Day long weekend.
The Saskatchewan government said three people were injured and a hiker was missing after a storm hit Meadow Lake Provincial Park in the province’s northwest on Saturday, although officials said Sunday afternoon that the hiker has since been accounted for.
Government spokesman Jim Billington said in a news release that severe winds knocked down large swaths of trees at the Murray Doell Campground and emergency responders answered multiple requests for assistance.
Billington said the three people who were injured were expected to survive, and said campers evacuated from the affected campgrounds were at a local emergency shelter where they have access to food, water and first aid.
