Indigenous Voice Artists Wanted

National Film Board of Canada seeks Indigenous voice artists

A call is out for Indigenous voice artists to apply to create a $50,000 digital project.

Artists include anyone who does hip hop, rap, spoken word, poetry, singing, audio atorytelling, or Podcasts.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is partnering with the imagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival for their eighth annual Digital Prize Project.

imagineNATIVE is the world’s largest presenter of Indigenous screen content, according to a media release. They are recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for excellence and innovation in programming and as the global centre for Indigenous media arts.

The organization put out an open call to all Indigenous voice artists to apply to create a new digital or interactive experiment. The projects can include a new kind of music video, a live performance, or even an application for your cell phone.

All projects based on the words and voices of Indigenous artists will be eligible for the competition.

The winning project will be brought to life with the help of the NFB and imagineNATIVE. The NFB will provide the tools, resources and advice to help complete the project over a one year timeframe.

The maximum budget for the project is $50,000, a portion of which will go the winner as a fee for being the lead artist. Artists not located around the Vancouver area will also be brought to the studio up to two times courtesy of the NFB Digital Studio.

Applicants must be an aspiring or established Indigenous voice and sound artist, have Canadian citizenship and be prepared to work on the project from November 2019 to October 2020.

The project will have to be completed in the one year in order to present it at the 21stedition of the imagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival in October 2020 and online.
