Best DJ Maxwell Music has a simple goal, to make sure your wedding reception, anniversary party, or special event rocks.

Owner and head DJ Nigel Maxwell said when you hire him he and his DJs will be sure to get the party going.

“I believe a good DJ should be able to go into any room and read that crowd and play to that crowd whether it be a polka crowd or a country crowd or maybe they want to rock out or all Top 40; you should be able to know and watch that crowd and know what they respond too,” said Maxwell.

Maxwell has been providing the tunes at weddings and special events for 16 years but it was just recently that he decided to branch out on his own and create Maxwell Music.

Maxwell Music has been a licensed business in Prince Albert for approximately a year and a half.

“It’s been crazy,” said Maxwell. “I thought I [would] do one gig a month that will be fine and I can make a little extra cash, but it’s been every weekend since May 1 and I am booked every weekend until the end of November.”

Initially, Maxwell Music was meant to be just a solo project. However, business has been so good Maxwell decided he would need to bring in some other DJs.

“I got to the point where I was turning away so many people that I had to make a decision so I took on one full-time guy that works for me all the time and I am currently training someone else right now,” he said.

“I hate turning people away, I hate saying no I can’t deliver, but at the same time I want to make sure they are getting that same level of service whoever they are getting as a DJ for their event,” he added.

Maxwell is a busy man, he is the news director at paNOW.com during the day, and then he DJs most evenings on the weekend. He said he loves DJing so much that he considers his DJ gigs to be his down time.

“I love doing it,” he said. “People always ask when is your down time when do you have time to relax and honestly that is. I have the pressures of the news all week and then I get to play music on the weekends, that is my relaxing fun time, that is when I party.”

Maxwell Music is dedicated to catering to the customer. Maxwell said he has no set play list and is always ready to take requests.

“I don’t know how any DJ could have a set play list for any crowd because in my 16 years experience I have never once had the exact same crowd,” said Maxwell.

“My biggest rush is getting out there and getting a crowd pumped up and that’s why I do this.”
