Best Bed and Breakfast : Keyhole Castle
Keyhole Castle Bed and Breakfast is located in one of the finest heritage homes in Canada. Guests that stay there get to experience first-hand an important piece of Prince Albert’s history.
Commissioned in 1911 by Samuel McLeod, a successful Prince Albert businessman, the home is now registered as a heritage site, both municipally and nationally. Samuel McLeod built the home for his family after he had made his fortune in lumber and the mercantile trade. He served as Mayor of Prince Albert twice, once as a younger man, and once near the end of his life. The McLeod family was well travelled, and in commissioning architect Erich Wohann to build their home, chose a design that reflected their eclectic tastes.
Jonathan & Denise Smith purchased Keyhole Castle in 2008 with the intention of turning it into a bed and breakfast.
“The charm of the home” said Smith, “is that it’s laid back, and yet elegant. When you stay here you truly are visiting a work of art, because there is nothing else like it.”
