Trio recognized for their work

Three people from Prince Albert have been recognized for their dedication to the community.

Tuesday at the P.A. Raiders game, Morley Harrison, Mickey Macgillivary and Carole Ring were recognized as being Fountain Tire Three Stars. The goal of the awards is to recognized those who are ‘unsung heroes.’ The initiative is a joint one involving the Western Hockey League which has the goal of recognizing people for their volunteerism.

Harrison, a retired teacher and vice principal, actively volunteers with a number of community organizations. These organizations range from youth sports groups to the P.A. Historical Society.

Macgillivary, serves as the director of Hope’s Home. The home is a medical daycare which serves children who are medically fragile, the daycare currently has 90 spaces. Along with running the centre, Macgillivary organizes a number of events including a fundraising golf tournament.

Ring has helped out Raiders organization in a few ways over the years, including serving as billet parent for the team for 20 years. Ring has also stepped up to sing the national anthem at some of the team’s games. Besides being involved the local hockey community, Ring also helps out with the arts centre and her church.

In January, people had the opportunity to nominate those they felt were deserving at Fountain Tire. The campaign was held Canada wide and took place in 20 different communities, including in the eastern part of the country where Fountain Tire has partnered with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
