The list of potential NDP candidates who want to break the Sask. Party’s hold in the Prince Albert Carlton riding has grown.

Harmony Johnson-Harder announced her plans to seek the NDP candidature to take on incumbent Joe Hargrave.

In addition to her work for the Northern Sport Culture and Recreation district, Johnson-Harder has also worked at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre in La Ronge.

“I don’t bring my own personal agenda; I try to work with what I hear”– Harmony Johnson-Harder

Resource issues in health and education influenced her decision to seek the nomination. She also has concerns about the environment and wants to “preserve the beauty of Prince Albert and its strong connection to its fresh water and forests.”

“[Addressing ] education and the cuts to education are among my priorities for sure,” she told paNOW. “Mental health, physical health, all types of health issues, like the hospital here in Prince Albert [are important].”

Johnson-Harder said she can be a proactive candidate and added she is not afraid to address the most pressing issues the community and environment face.

“I bring a fresh perspective that is grounded in hearing and understanding what the people of Prince Albert Carlton are experiencing,” she said.

She noted her background in mediation and community development are an asset.

“I hear the issues first and I work really hard to try to advocate for, or work for solutions around what the community is telling me,” she said. “I don’t bring my own personal agenda; I try to work with what I hear.”

Johnson-Harder also has experience volunteering in the community, and currently sits on the Prince Albert Council for the Arts, and hosts house concerts for Home Routes.

Local teacher Troy Parenteau has also announced plans to run for the NDP. The nomination meeting has been scheduled to take place April 25 at Calvary United Church.
