City continues to install new back-up beepers

If you’ve heard new sounds coming from city construction equipment, you’re not going crazy.

In a trend that is picking up across Canadian cities, Prince Albert is continuing to implement new backup indicators that move away from your standard beeping and to a static-type sound.

Fleet Manager, Robert Snowden explained why the change is taking place.

“The white noise backup alarms don’t transmit into homes as bad,” Snowden said. “Yet directly behind the implement or piece of equipment it is loud enough for people to know it is coming.”

Snowden said around two years ago the city started to install the new alarms and have replaced about half of them in their fleet. He said they’ll continue to replace the beepers as new pieces of equipment are purchased and as old ones are updated.
