Prairies can expect wild swings as spring arrives: The Weather Network

While most Canadians can expect an abrupt flip to spring in March, according to The Weather Network, the Prairies are not yet out of the woods.

“It looks like a furious finish to winter east of the Rockies with some wild winter weather during early March,” Chief Meteorologist for the network Chris Scott said. “However, later in March, we expect an abrupt flip in the weather pattern.”

But the network warns spring will be interspersed with chilly interruptions to the warmer weather well into May.

In the Prairies, a wintry grip will continue through early March, but a pattern change will bring some long-awaited relief in mid- to late -March.

Deeper than normal snow cover in some areas will bring a risk of flooding.

Even after a period of warmer spring weather, the networks said threats of colder weather will continue through March, April and May.

Temperatures are forecasted by the network to be about average for most of the province.

Precipitation is anticipated to be near normal for most of the province, except for the South, where below average conditions are expected.
