Calgary Stampeders sign veteran receiver Chris Matthews to CFL contract
CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders signed international receiver Chris Matthews on Tuesday.
Matthews fills a need for Calgary, which has four receivers injured — Eric Rogers, DaVaris Daniels, Kamar Jorden and Reggie Begelton. Rogers, however, is expected to return soon from a knee injury.
Matthews was the CFL’s top rookie in 2012 when he had 81 catches for 1,192 yards and seven TDs with Winnipeg. He later went on to play in 25 NFL games with Seattle and Baltimore (2014-17).
Matthews had four catches for 109 yards and a TD in Seattle’s 28-24 loss to the New England patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.
