P.A comes out of the deep freeze

After an extended period, things have finally started to warm up in Prince Albert.

It was an incredibly cold start to the month. For the first 10 days of February, Prince Albert averaged a mean temperature of -28.8 degrees, compare that to the average monthly mean of -13.8 degrees.

Warning and Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Natalie Hasell said the rise in temperature is thanks to the arctic high pressure ridge moving off.

“It’s still cold, but it’s infinitely warmer,” she said.

Hasell said that typically, the latter part of February is much warmer than the start so we should continue to see a bump in mercury levels.

For this week however, the outlook looks chilly. Daytime highs continue to be projected around 10 degrees colder than usual, with the possibility of some light snow on Monday.

Hasell pointed out that temperatures are still in a dangerous territory and that hypothermia and frost bite continue to be real risks.
