It will be a cookbook, with a twist.

Pineview Terrace long-term care facility recreation staff and residents were busy doing makeup, going through costume design and posing for the perfect shot, as they prepare the September launch of their pin-up style cookbook.

Shadow Catcher Studio was there to take the photos.

“Today we had a wide array of shots,” Kyle Anderson, photographer and co-owner of Shadow Catcher Studio said. “We started off with a wonderful bubble-bath shot with one of the female residents who got the rubber duckies and glasses of wine out.”

Anderson explained that residents posed in a number of shots from Hawaiian to salon themed.

The feature model of an outdoor shot was Glendis Porter. Porter was not only in front of the camera, she contributed a number of family recipes some of which were handed down from her mother.

“Some of them are buns and bread, she was an excellent bread maker,” Porter said. “I think my mom would be very happy that I’ve contributed the recipes.”

Shannon Hurl, the recreation coordinator at Pineview Terrace was happy to see the residents really get into the pin-up theme and have fun with it.

“I liked the philosophy of Shadow Catcher Studio, that everything and everyone is beautiful,” Hurl told paNOW. “Sometimes when you get a little older you don’t feel very pretty and I think today everyone felt great. It was all about good self-esteem and they were ready to roll.”

Pictures and recipes will be compiled by Shadow Catcher over the summer. Staff will try and have the books ready for sale in September to coincide with special care-home week.

Funds raised from the books will support recreation activities for Pineview Terrace residents.
