Local Jiu-Jitsu student prepares for big fight

Gareau has been training for three and a half years. Despite taking home a medal at five of the last six tournaments he has competed in, Gareau has never had just a one-on-one match. His match Friday night at the Nutana Curling Club will consist of one five-minute round, which can only be won by submission. At the end of the five minutes if there is no winner, the match will go to overtime.

“I heard this guy might be a wrestler so his takedowns will probably be a little better, so hopefully I have something on the ground that might surprise him and catch him,” Gareau said.

Gareau trains at Complete Martial Arts, and can be found there most days working out at lunch as well as at night. Head Instructor Corey Lillis old paNOW, Gareau is one of his hardest working students.

“Win or lose I’m just going to have fun,” Gareau said.

MFC3 will showcase 10 mixed martial arts bouts. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.with fights scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
