Update: assumed stolen ducks found safe and sound

There is some good news related to a reported duck heist in Prince Albert.

According to City Councilor Don Cody, who helps coordinate the annual duck launch at Memorial Gardens, the ducks are safe and sound, and were never actually stolen at all. However, they were associated with some foul – or should that be fowl -play.

According to a news release Monday night from police, the ducks were stolen Saturday night from a location in the 1600 block of 17th St. W.

Cody explained to paNOW that during a break-in at St. Michael School, the ducks somehow got out, and were wandering the school grounds before getting picked up a lady who lived nearby. Knowing that the ducks were intended for the annual duck launch, the woman then proceeded to take the birds to the cemetary where they have remained since.

One month prior to the annual duck launch at Memorial Gardens, a pair of ducks are given to a handful of schools and day cares in the area to be taken care of, before they are set free. St. Michael was one of the schools in the city this year taking part.

Cody said the school has been informed the two ducks are safe, and more importantly can still be included in Friday’s launch.
