Brown wins fourth straight Ladies Northerns

Jun 2, 2019 | 5:26 PM

Saskatoon’s Kim Brown keeps coming back to the Ladies Northern golf tournament at Cooke Municipal Golf Course.

And it’s not just because she keeps winning it. Brown won her fourth consecutive Ladies Northerns on Saturday and Sunday and was +8 after two rounds—becoming the only golfer in the field to stay under +10 for the tournament.

And it’s not because she grew up on the course as a youngster and worked on it during some summers. But it’s about the sense of community the competitors have for each other.

This year, Brown said there was $13,000 raised to the Victoria Hospital and to a friend of many of the competitors that recently was diagnosed with cancer. Seeing everybody pitch in and help was a friendly reminder for Brown and why tournaments like these are so important.

“Those kinds of things remind us of why we’re here and why we come to play together, and come together as a community to support each other,” Brown said. “That’s why we’re out here, that’s why we come here year after year.”

Sherry Anderson won the Senior Ladies title, and was ranked third overall at +16.

Barb McKay won the Spirit of Golf Award for her smiling attitude, even after a mistake on the course.
