P.A. goes wild for the weekend

If the sight of snakes, spiders or crocodiles makes you feel queasy, then the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre may not be best place to visit this weekend.

Little Ray’s Wildlife Festival was scheduled to run Saturday and Sunday. Zookeeper Alex Leclair said the purpose of showing exotic animals to children, who would not otherwise get the chance to see them, is to address what he called a crisis with wildlife in the world.

“I think the first step to mitigate that is to educate our children so they can take steps to fix it in the future,” he said.

There are a total of 30 exotic animal exhibits, including tortoises, spiders, snakes, birds, and even a sloth. In addition to being able to see the exotic animals, the children also get an opportunity to touch them. Leclair said the children always have lots of questions.

:Often times, the most common question is ‘does it bite’? The answer is anything with a mouth can bite, including people or your pets,” he joked.

Doors are open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..There is no cost for children under three, but everyone else pays $14.50.
