Young Prince Albert girl gives back to the community

While other kids her age might be asking for a scooter or hover board for their birthdays, Prince Albert’s Lazaryn Bird told her mother she wanted to help the homeless.

The eight-year-old saved up her allowance for months and managed to raise $100.

“I saw all the homeless people and all the people saying ‘No,'” she told paNOW.

With the money, Bird and her mother purchased $10 gifts cards, which they now plan to distribute to agencies in the community. Samantha Bird said her daughter has always been sensitive to peoples’ feelings, and figured her daughter got the idea while she was taking social work classes last year.

“I would be reading my books while she was reading hers, and she would be watching some of the videos I had to watch,” she said.

The family celebrated Lazaryn’s birthday at Kinsmen Park Wednesday and hosted a free hot dog barbecue for anyone passing by the park.

“I think we really need to have an open mind when we interact with children because they are teaching us as much as we are teaching them,” Bird said.
