Prince Albert Sharks Master Swimming – Rock the Blocks

Prince Albert swimmer, Joy Friesen, returned from the Canadian Masters Swimming Championships in Montreal with two second-place finishes.

Friesen, a masters swimmer with the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club, came second in both the 1500-metre freestyle and 200-metre backstroke at the national event, which took place May 24-26.

“Congratulations, Joy, for the great performance!” said Sharks head coach Hazem Hussein.

Friesen competed with swimmers across Canada and from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, China, Mexico, Egypt and Bermuda.

More than 750 masters swimmers competed in the event.

In addition, to the silver medals in the 1500-metre freestyle and 200-metre backstroke, Friesen was also 0.16 seconds from the provincial record in the 25-metre freestyle.

She also came fourth in 100-metre backstroke and sixth in the 50-metre backstroke.

“Joy has worked hard in training in this training season,” said Hussein. “The results she has achieved are down to her dedication and hard work. We are pleased with our masters swimmers’ results and performances.”

The Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club offers a variety of programs to meet all potentials and ambitions not only on the competitive level but also on the non-competitive level.
