Former MLA seeks local Sask. Party nomination

A woman who represented the riding of Prince Albert Northcote for five years, is tossing her hat back in the ring.

Victoria Jurgens has announced plans to seek the Sask Party nomination for Prince Albert Northcote. When asked by paNOW why she was running, Jurgens said it was something she and her husband had talked about before he passed away last month.

“When he got sick [in February], he said ‘You’ve got to keep working on it’ and I told him ‘No I don’t have to because I don’t know how much time I have left with you, but if if the good Lord takes you early, I will put my hat back in the ring,'” she said.

The nomination meeting takes place June 10. Alana Ross has also announced plans to seek the nomination, and has been vocal about the benefits of being a candidate who lives in the riding. Jurgens lives on an acreage outside the city.

“I don’t know that it is a case of the specifics of where you live, I think its more the case of do you understand the people and do they understand that you have their best interests at heart, in other words you have their back,” she said.

Jurgens was a member of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assemble (MLA) from 2011 to 2016. During her time in office,Jurgens said was involved in getting more police officers on the street, increasing capacity at the men’s and women’s jails, as well as the implementation of Hope’s Home, which provides 90 child care spaces.

“The case for what I can do, where my heart is, how I help the people, pretty much stands for itself,” she said.
