A fundraiser that helps keep a Prince Albert pre-school running, celebrated its seventh anniversary Friday night.

The Diamonds and Pearls ladies gala has raised an average of $20,000 each year for L’Ecole Des Petits. Board secretary Danette Koenig said they do not receive provincial funding so they have to find other avenues to pay for their costs.

“This is one of our big fundraisers. Hopefully it means we can continue offering really good programming for pre-school students in Prince Albert at a very reasonable cost,” she said.

Close to 90 children (ages three to five) were registered at the school this year. Koenig said the money they raise, among other things, will help ensure they have quality instructors and can send children on field trips.

“We do lots of outings with the kids that they may not get to experience otherwise,” she said.

Some of the school’s money has also been used to bring local artists to the school, such as Leah Dorian, who has worked personally with the kids.

Roughly 250 women turned out for the event Friday night and were treated to dinner, games, prizes and dancing. The queen’s table alone, worth over $12,000 in donated prizes, sold for over $2,200.
