Impaired driving investigation leads to officer assault, suspect escaping custody

Two arrests in Spiritwood became one after a suspect escaped custody last night.

At 8:20 p.m. on Thursday night, Spiritwood RCMP responded to a call of an impaired driver on the Pelican Lake First Nation. When members attended, they located the suspect and his vehicle.

As they attempted to arrest the man, a second suspect approached police and assaulted an officer. He was subsequently arrested and placed in the police cruiser.

While officers were placing the second man in the vehicle, the suspected impaired driver fled on foot.

The driver was pursued and apprehended, but when police returned to place him in the cruiser, it was discovered the second suspect was let out and escaped custody.

Spritwood RCMP issued an arrest warrant for Brent Sakebow, 35. If you have any information on his location, you are urged to contact RCMP.
