Amazing Weekend for PA Sharks

Swimmers with the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club participating in the past weekend in Saskatoon earned both personal best times and entry into the ManSask championships.

Fifteen athletes took part in the Lasers Invitation Swim Meet May 3-4.

“Swimmers went on to put in some fantastic performances over the weekend,” said head coach Hazem Hussein. “There were personal best swims from over 91 per cent that competed.”

Liam Murphy achieved an AA time in 200-metre backstroke, which qualified him for the ManSask championships which will be held in Winnipeg in early July.

Soren Hansen also achieved his first AA time ever and qualified for ManSask as well. Four Sharks swimmers have qualified for this inter-provincial event so far.

Highlights from the Championship:

•Liam Murphy placed first in the 50-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley and second in the 200-metre backstroke and 100- and 200-metree freestyle. He achieved an AA time in the 200-metre backstroke and qualified for ManSask.

•Soren Hansen came fourth in the 200-metre backstroke and the 100-metre freestyle, sixth in the 50-metre freestyle and seventh in the 50-metre back-stroke. He also achieved an AA time in the 50-metre freestyle and qualified for ManSask.

•Luthar Wiberg placed third in the 100-metre breastroke and 100-metre freestyle; fourth in 50-metre breaststroke and 100-metre freestyle; and fifth in the 50-metre backstroke.

•Mackenzie Emery placed third in the 50-metre freestyle, fifth in the 100-me-tre freestyle and ninth in the 50-metre butterfly.

•Dani Boisson achieved A times in 50-metre breaststroke, 100-metre breast-stroke and 50-, 100- and 200-metre freestyle.

•Frenzie Altavano came sixth in 50-metre backstroke and 200-metre freestyle and ninth in 100-metre freestyle. She had personal best times in all of her events.

•Natasha Coertze had personal best times in 50-metre freestyle, 800-metre freestyle and 100-metre breaststroke.

•Clara Gelhorn came fourth in 100-metree freestyle and sixth in 200-metre freestyle. She achieved A times in the 100-metre and 200-metre freestyle events.

•Sarah Alam had personal best times in all of her events.

•Myla Masko had personal best times in all of her events.

•Abigail Anderson-Woodsworth had personal best times in 200-metre freestyle and 50-metre breaststroke. •Isla Hansen had personal best times in all of her events.

•Rebecca Fines had personal best times in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre freestyle events.

•Jenna Pshebnicki had personal best times in 50-metre breaststroke and 200-metre freestyle.

•Ella Larrea participated in the 50-metre and 200-metre freestyle and in the 50-metre breaststroke.

The Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club offers a variety of programs to meet the kids’ potentials and ambitions not only at the competitive level but also on the non-competitive level.
