UPDATE: Both sides of highway re-opened following Holbein fire

UPDATE: The province has confirmed both sides of the highway have been re-opened at this time with no restrictions in place.

UPDATE: Officials with Saskatchewan Environment say the fire near Holbein is now burning on both the north and south side of the highway. The fire is about eight hectares in size.

Drivers are still being advised to avoid the area.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment says no structures are in danger from the fire at this time.

Fire crews remain on the scene and are working with both the Buckland and Shellbrook fire departments as well.

Fire crews are currently at the scene of a fire near Holbein.

Officials with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment say the fire was reported in a ditch along Highway 3, just northeast of Holbein around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Fire crews with the Shellbrook Fire Department are crrently on scene while the Buckland Fire Department told paNOW they were on standby.

VIsibility in the area is reduced due to smoke and drivers are advised to use caution. Traffic in the area is being re-routed.

Last year, the Rally Fire burned for several days in the Holbein area, reaching about 2,400 hectares before it was contained.
