Annual concert set to support grandmothers

Apr 13, 2019 | 11:00 AM

The twelfth annual Arioso and Friends Concert in support of Grandmothers for Grandmothers will take place Sunday, with proceeds helping those impacted by the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

The annual event features a variety of musical talent from Prince Albert and region. In addition to music, a variety of cookies will be made available through Grandmothers for Grandmothers before the concert and during the intermission.

Linda Jensen, an organizer and singer with Arioso, said the event is very lighthearted and fun, with a great cause behind it.

“The concert will feature a very eclectic mix of music,” said Jensen. “The concert is very fun-loving, we started in 2008 and the following has increased to the point that we had to change venues to facilitate the number of people that want to come to the show.”

Beginning in 2006, the Grandmothers for Grandmothers campaign was a Canadian response to the emerging crisis faced by African grandmothers as they were forced to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS.

“This is a major fundraiser for the Prince Albert chapter. It’s a very grassroots cause and they do amazing work,” said Jensen.

“They help people in a variety of ways, helping them to help themselves to have a better life.”

According to Jensen, the theme of the concert this year is ‘Looking at the Bright Side of Life’, and will focus very strongly around that premise, encouraging audience members to look for positives and enjoy life.

The event will be held at Plaza 88 Sunday, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.
