Brothers cut their hair for cancer research

Two Prince Albert boys have a new look, and a lesson to share, after raising funds for cancer research.

Brothers Meryk and Deklan Carroll raised more than $800 in the last few weeks for the Canadian Cancer Society. The two youngsters capped off their fundraising push by cutting their hair this week.

Meryk, six, and Deklan, eight, said they were happy to help out a good cause. The boys said they asked family and friends to donate to the fundraiser.

“It’s fun, it takes a lot of courage,” Deklan said. “We think the children that have cancer will be really happy.”

The boys’ mother, Larissa Carroll, said the boys came up with the idea to fundraise for cancer research.

“We’ve had family members who have passed away from cancer, so they’re sensitive to it. “They had an exceptional response and people were very generous.”

Carroll kept a few snippets of the boys’ hair as a keepsake, and said there was another upside to the initiative.

“It was admirable to know that they were doing what they were doing at such a young age, but also people are excited to see them with such short hair too,” she added.
