Carlton threats case

Carlton threats case moves to alternative measures

Mar 27, 2019 | 5:01 PM

A youth charged with making threats to a local high school earlier this year has had his case sent to the alternative measures program for resolution.

The 13-year-old boy, who can’t be named due to his age, was arrested in January following threats made via social media to Carlton Comprehensive Public High School. Police said at the time that the threat appeared to have been made against the school, but later investigation revealed that was not the case.

The youth appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court again on Wednesday, where his case was sent to the alternative measures program.

The community-based initiative allows people accused of a criminal offence to make reparations for their actions, both to their victims and the community. Possible outcomes from alternative measures include an apology, financial compensation, donations to charity, community service work or participation in programming.

The youth’s case is expected to come back to court June 26 for an update on the outcome of the alternative measures process.
