P.A. woman seeks NDP nomination

The first potential NDP candidate for Prince Albert has come forward.

Nicole Rancourt is seeking the nomination for the NDP in Prince Albert Northcote. The riding is currently held by the Saskatchewan Party's Victoria Jurgens.

“I'm getting quite frustrated of listening to a lot of people talk about how they feel that in the seven years the Sask Party government has been in power, that they haven't been seeing any improvements in their day-to-day lives,” said Rancourt.

Rancourt said the cost of living is increasing and incomes are not.

Rancourt is a social worker and works in mental health and addictions with the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region. She is no stranger to politics. The 38 year old has been a member of the NDP party since she was 13 years old.

“I remember working on elections with my parents and they always had a sign outside their house. It was just a given that you went out and you supported and you did all the work that you needed to do,” said Rancourt.

In addition to her job as a social worker, Rancourt is the regional representative for the Prairie Region Mental Health Council. She is also a member of the Prince Albert Council of Women.

So far, she is the only one seeking the nomination. The nomination meeting will be held Oct. 23.
