Accused in Pelican Narrows murder, waiting for bail hearing

Oct 16, 2014 | 4:48 PM

Over a month after a Pelican Narrows man was arrested for murder, he still doesn’t have the documents to find out if he qualifies for bail.

RCMP state they were called to a home after Adam Terrance Sewap, 32, got into a fight with another man from the northern community around midnight on September 8. The other man, 29, was taken to the health centre with serious injuries when police arrived. He was pronounced dead that night.

Sewap has been in custody since, charged with second degree murder.

Sewap’s representation Adam Masiowski told a judge in Provincial Court on Thursday they were still waiting for disclosure from the Crown prosecutor.

Those disclosure documents are needed to proceed with a bail hearing, but in court it seemed there was some confusion with the Crown ’s office about how to transfer those files.

Masiowski explained his role in Sewap’s matters would end once disclosure was received, since he had a conflict in the case. Masiowski had previously represented the deceased, who has not been named.

Sewap stood calm in the prisoner’s box with a cast wrapped around his lower arm and wrist.

He’s scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 30, and a bail hearing will be even further down the road from that.
