Jail n Bail

Jail-N-Bail celebrates 25 years in Prince Albert – Annual Fundraiser brings community together to put cancer away for life!

The event will be Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Gateway Mall, Prince Albert.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Jail-N-Bail is moving from silent films to the TV age as it celebrates Prince Albert’s 25th event on October 23, 2014 at the Gateway Mall. This year’s event is adopting a new look based on television crime dramas and cheap pocket novels.

Jail-N-Bail® is a fundraising event that involves putting otherwise respectable citizens in a special jail and giving them the opportunity to raise pledges or ‘bail’ from their friends, family and co-workers.  Turned in by people who “care” about them, these surprise arrests add to the prank-like fun of the event.  These unsuspecting jailbirds will be arrested for charges such as leaving work early to go golfing, leaving old lunches in the staff fridge and being too cheerful in the morning!

Jail-N-Bail® Prince Albert also has its own “Most Wanted”, identified as Cancer’s #1 threats from the last 25 years. These “threats” have appeared on the most wanted list at least once over the last 25 years and have been involved with Jail-N-Bail®  in many other ways.  They include:

Laurie Dent – River Park Funeral Chapel and retired Prince Albert Canadian Cancer Society manager (first arrest was in 2005)
Fred Matheson – Ted Matheson Men’s Wear (first arrest was in 1992)
Trevor Dutchak – Parkland Ambulance (first arrest was in 2007)
Don Mitchell – Rawlco Radio (arrested in 1991, 1994, 1995, 2006)
Neil Headrick – Rawlco Radio  (arrested in 1991, 1996 and 1997)
Doug Dahl – Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (first arrest was in 2011)

Over the year’s many people have found themselves sitting on both sides of the court as both judge and defendant and this year is no exception!  Jailbirds will plead their case in front of one of these daunting judges:

Bruce Vance – Prince Albert Raiders
Darryl Mills – Prince Albert Daily Herald
Teena Monteleone – CTV
Don Mitchell and Neil Headrick – Rawlco Radio – 900 CKBI
Jim Toye – City of Prince Albert
Troy Cooper – Prince Albert Police Chief
Jason Everett – Prince Albert Fire Chief

1989 was Prince Albert’s first Jail-N-Bail® with names like Terry Simpson, Mayor Gordon Kirkby, Sister Jean Leier and Gerald Morin joining around 140 other jailbirds.  $27,000 was pledged as bail money in that first year!  Check out www.jailnbail.ca for some pictures and articles from the last 25 years and see how much fun we’ve had!

To arrange for the arrest of your boss, co-worker, family or friend (make that former friend); to volunteer in one of the positions of prosecutor, warden, or court reporter; to help a jailbird raise their bail; or to bribe a judge visit www.jailnbail.ca or contact: The Prince Albert office  (306) 764-4808

Money raised at Jail-N-Bail® supports the Canadian Cancer Society’s work in Saskatchewan with its programs of Research, Patient Support Services, Public Education and Advocacy.
