Ghouls and goblins all part of Halloween spirit in P.A.

Spooky decorations and pumpkins can be seen throughout Prince Albert as Halloween approaches.

Making a mark in the city is eight-year-old Marshall Paproski who has a knack for making decorations of his own. Paproski said he made more than half of the decorations he has on display.

“We buy things cheap,” he said. “Why spend thousands of dollars on a stand-up ghoul when you can just make your own guys.”

Paproski was inspired by his grandmothers over the top decorations each year. After four and a half years of helping her decorate, he decided to decorate the whole house on his own.

“I figured out if I did it all by myself I could do it better than probably anybody in the world,” he said. “I go online and I see houses and I say ‘those are pretty good, but this house is gonna be better.’

The house has been popular, said Paproski, with kids from his school driving by all the time.

“Every day after school, they say ‘mom, mom, dad, dad can we go by Marshall’s house,’” he said.

Marshall plans on trick-or-treating after running the fog machine at the house.

Halloween decorations and trick-or-treating have also always been a part of Penny Darling’s life.

“We used to dress up and go around trick-or-treating in our small town after school and it was always fun,” said Darling. “We would have neighbourhood kids take us around the neighbourhood.”

Darling, like many people, said her Halloween decoration collection has grown over the years. However, of all the Halloween trinkets, she has a few favourites.

“I always liked the pumpkins, definitely, and spider webs and stuff, had to laugh because this year I had to take down the real spider webs to put up my fake ones,” she said.

Darling and her boyfriend Doug have been decorating their house for Halloween over the last couple of years now. Darling said she enjoys joining in the fun of Halloween.

“There are lots of kids in the neighborhood and it sort of makes them a little enthusiastic about Halloween, especially if they have some really nasty weather to deal with,” said Darling.

If you plan on going to Darling’s house this Halloween, you’re only safe from singing if she doesn’t know you.

“Every once in a while if it’s a kid I know and I feel like bugging them, I might get them to sing for a treat or something like that,” she said.
