Assault charges dropped against kidnapping accused

Assault charges from a separate incident involving a Prince Albert man also facing allegations of kidnapping and attempted murder have been stayed.

On Monday, Prince Albert Crown prosecutor John Morrall stayed charges related to a complaint by two women against Kevin Henderson, now 31. Morrall said the Crown didn’t feel there was a “reasonable likelihood” of conviction on these charges.

He said the decision was made after speaking to witnesses.

However, the Crown will continue to pursue charges against Henderson that stem from an early July incident on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Henderson and Shantal Mike, 26, of Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation, were sought by police after 66-year-old Marina Henderson was allegedly stabbed and her car was stolen. After RCMP received a complaint and went to investigate, they could not locate Marina Henderson or her vehicle.

Marina Henderson was found the next day, along with her vehicle. She was then taken to Victoria Hospital before she was transferred to a hospital in Saskatoon.

Marina Henderson has been confirmed to be the aunt of Kevin Henderson.

Police arrested Mike a couple of days later, with the help of tips from the public. Days later, police arrested Kevin Henderson in Prince Albert.

Henderson faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, and three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

His next court appearance is set for Oct. 30 on those charges.
