Raiders can’t get revenge in Lethbridge

After losing 3-1 Saturday at home to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Prince Albert Raiders couldn’t exact revenge four days later.

They lost to the Hurricanes 5-2 in Lethbridge on game televised on Shaw and broadcast live on 900 CKBI.

The Raiders were down 3-0 late in the second, but got goals from Darcy Zaharichuk and Marcus Messier 1:44 apart to get back in the game heading into the third.

But that’s the only offence the Raiders could muster in the 5-2 loss.

Tyler Wong had a hat trick for the Hurricanes and scored a goal in each period. He opened the scoring in the first, made it a 3-0 game in the second and added an empty netter late.

Defenceman Andrew Nielsen had the Hurricanes’ 2-0 goal—both of his goals this season and his WHL career have come against the Raiders. Hurricanes captain Jamal Watson made it 4-2 in the third period.

With the loss, the Raiders fall to 6-9 on the season.

The Hurricanes improve their record to 5-9-0-1 and have won four games in their last five—two against the Raiders.

Hurricanes goaltender Zac Robidoux picked up his first win of his WHL career, making 31 saves in the win. Raiders goalie Nick McBride made 29 saves in a losing effort.

Zaharichuk and Messier both scored their first goals of the season. It was Messier’s third game as a Raider after signing as a 20-year-old free agent with the Raiders last week.
