Crusaders beat Marauders in Senior ‘A’ Boys Final

After a hard fought match the Carlton Crusaders beat hometown rival St. Mary Marauders in the annual city championship game.

Carlton took the first two sets, but St. Mary fought back and took the third set. Carlton won in the fourth 25-20 to take home the championship.

Carlton has nine seniors playing on their team, and it was their first time winning the city final.

“It is a really good feeling knowing that these nine seniors can go out on a high note on their own turf, this was a long time coming,” said Carlton Grade 12 student Daulton Sinoski. “These last two years we lost two close ones, but this year we had the mentality going into it that we were going to go pedal to the metal and we wanted this more than anything.”

And Carlton wants to carry this win into regionals.

“I think we just need to take a couple of tips from tonight  as basically if we pass and serve well, and keep doing those little fundamental things we will be fine,”  said Carlton coach Curtis Bender.

St. Mary wasn’t able to come out with the victory, but they too are focusing on the regionals going forward.

“I think we need to start off stronger than we did, we started off pretty weak, and we weren’t playing our ‘A’ game,” said St. Mary Grade 12 student Arliss McCloy. “I think that we need to come together and play our best for the entire game.”

Both boys and girls volleyball regionals kick off on Nov. 15 and will be hosted at Carlton Comprehensive High School.
