Military Collection Stolen from Big River Legion

Royal Canadian Legion Br #136 is saddened to report a theft has occurred from our Military Collection at our hall.

Some time in the last 2 weeks someone forced open the glass showcase in the hall and stole a set of WW1 war medals including the Military Medal, 14-18 Star and 14-18 War Medal. These are irreplaceable.

They are all marked and identifiable, enclosed in a red case with medals on the bottom part and a picture of our proud vet on the top part.

Also gone is a homemade knife 4-5 inches long made out of a couple of shell casings, again, all irreplaceable.

Other items missing from the same showcase is a coin collection of veteran and military coins, mostly Canadian and easily re-purchased at the post office, a British large silver dollar type coin commemorating the 50th, maybe 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation 52-77. We are unsure of the exact time frame. Also, a few badges, etcetera are missing.

All has been reported and is being acted on by the RCMP.

All other articles, pics and irreplaceable medals are still intact in the lounge but have been removed for safe keeping elsewhere.

The total street value of the coin collection might be 10 dollars and all have coloured maple leafs etcetera on them.

Many are in circulation.

So, we are appealling to the person who took this stuff may have gained $10 and some irreplaceable and hard to sell medals.

If he or she has regrets for doing this they can and should get these back to where they belong, where they can be shared with the pride they deserve by the veterans and people from Big River.

They have no real meaning to anybody else.
