Vandalism appears overnight in Prince Albert

Vandalism over the sides of three business in Prince Albert appeared overnight on the 2800 block of 2nd Avenue West. Swastikas were spray-painted around the building which houses W.K Kitchen, RBC and 2 For 1 Family Pizza.

According to employees from businesses, this is not the first time this has happened in the area.

An employee at Amy’s restaurant said the first time was nearly two weeks ago and this is the third time.  She said racist comments have been spray-painted around the area before in addition to the swastikas. 

Employees have to remove the vandalism themselves with their own supplies, something that Dustin Law, an employee at W.K Kitchen said shouldn’t be happening.  However, the Anti-Graffiti Paint Program ended in October.

“Generally they will give you a paint and a roller and that to fix it,” he said. “I think they should keep it all the time.”

Despite removing the vandalism, the swastikas have been retraced with spray-paint. 

An employee at 2 for 1 Family Pizza said the situation angers him because they have lost clients since the vandalism appeared. 

An employee at RBC said the situation is disturbing and hopes it gets resolved. 

“It’s a shame it happens more than it should,” Law said.

Students from Carlton Comprehensive High School also had opinions towards the vandalism.

“I think it is very disrespectful,” said Logan Hobson. “I think everybody should be surprised because it’s not really something we want to be promoting.”

Darcy Lees said it’s hard to believe the Nazi ideal is still around.

“I think it’s extremely insensitive for someone to do that especially this close to Remembrance Day,” he said. “I don’t know why they would do that.  It’s just a horrible thing for somebody to do.”

Brandon Mudry with the Prince Albert Police service said they had received a mischief complaint this morning and are investigating the situation.

“There will be more updates provided when the information becomes available,” he said.
