RCMP investigate northern lodge break in

The owner of a remote fishing lodge in northern Saskatchewan is filing a formal complaint after he says his property was broken into.

Southend RCMP received the complaint Thursday and are in the early stages of the investigation and do not have any suspects currently, according to Mandy Maier, spokesperson for RCMP.

“At this point, it is just that the investigation is ongoing and they are still in the evidence-gathering phase,” she said.

The lodge and surrounding buildings on Reindeer Lake were reported to have damage that occurred sometime between Nov. 7 and Nov. 9. The break in happened the same time search teams were looking for five missing teens from Southend who failed to return home from a moose-hunting trip.

During the search, RCMP said a private lodge on Reindeer Lake was broken into a survival supplies were taken. At the time, officers weren’t able to confirm if the missing teens were there.

Earlier this week, Kelly Littlechilds, the owner of Arctic Lodges, told Canadian Press that he arrived to his property to find doors had been kicked in and things were out of place.

His property includes a main lodge and 30 cabins. Some of the buildings have food and are left unlocked for anyone who might be lost.

The missing teens, between the ages of 13 and 17, were found Monday and taken back to their homes.
