Few thoughts for Raiders-Warriors

Nov 14, 2014 | 3:59 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders haven’t had a mascot since Riley Raider roamed around the Art Hauser Centre at the end of the 2012-2013 season.

That will change as of tonight, as the Raiders will unveil their new mascot tonight during Friday’s contest against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Here are a few things to mull over during the game.

Coming off back-to-back blowouts

The Prince Albert Raiders have been outscored 14-5 in their last two games and are winless in their last three games.

The Raiders gave up three goals in the first period of the Nov. 7 contest against the Seattle Thunderbirds to lose 6-2. The Raiders then gave up six goals in the opening 13 minutes of the second period in Wednesday’s 8-3 defeat to the Regina Pats.

Warriors usually tough against Raiders

The Raiders have had trouble getting wins over the Warriors in recent years, with a 12-25-0-3 record against them in the previous five seasons, including a 2-6 record against the Tribe last year.

But the Raiders already have two wins over the Warriors this year in three games played, with a 3-2 shootout win Oct. 3 and a 6-3 win on the road on Oct. 31. Their one loss came on the road 5-3 on Oct. 15.

Strong kill

The Raiders have killed all their last 21 penalties in their last seven games. The Warriors also rank last in the WHL in power play percentage away from home, clicking at only 5.3 per cent.

Watch for Leverton and Point

Raiders sniper Craig Leverton has 11 goals on the year in 19 games, four of those goals have come against the Warriors in just three games.

Brayden Point is piling up points for the Warriors with six points (one goal) in three head-to-head games against the Raiders. Tanner Eberle and Jack Rodewald also have three goals in as many games against the Raiders.

Buckin’ Broncos

The Raiders will head on the road on Saturday to play the Swift Current Broncos. The Broncos will return to the Art Hauser Centre on Nov. 21.
