Bantam Raiders tie Sharks 2-2 in their tournament opener

Dec 4, 2014 | 3:55 PM

The Prince Albert Venice House Raiders’ first game of their Bantam AAA Tournament could have gone either way against the Winnipeg Sharks.

Instead, it went neither way as the Raiders and Sharks drew 2-2 Thursday at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders scored the lone goal in the first period off the stick of Matthew Flodell midway through the opening frame. They would hold that lead until late in the second when Sharks forward Michael King scored on a 2-on-1 with a perfect wrist shot to ruin Raiders goalie Carson Schewaga of a shutout.

The Raiders would regain their one-goal lead as Owen Ozar completely undressed the Sharks on an end-to-end, individual rush.

The Sharks would tie the game on the power play midway through the third period as King would pick up his second of the game.

Schewaga was deservedly named the Raiders player of the game, making 29 saves in the game.

The Raiders will take on Red Deer Rebels White Friday at 8 a.m. at the Kinsmen for their next game of the tournament. Then, they have two games on Saturday at the Kinsmen to complete their round robin, 8 a.m. against the Swift Current Kabos Raiders and 6 p.m. against the Camrose Red Wings.
