Raiders Iced in overtime

Dec 13, 2014 | 4:51 AM

Zak Zbrosky’s second goal of the night with just over a minute left in overtime gave Kootenay a 3-2 win over the road weary Raiders in Cranbrook.

The Raider penalty killers worked a lot of overtime to preserve the single point. They killed off four separate 5-on-3 Ice advantages spending a total of 3:24 in two man disadvantages. They were fueled in part by three puck over the glass delay of game penalties and a botched high sticking call on Tomas Andrlik whlo clipped Kootenay’s Luke Philp on a backhand follow through while clearing the puck out of the Prince Albert zone. To make matters worse the penalty time keeper incorrectly marked two minutes instead of four up on the score clock. Andrlik who was let out of the penalty box late in the second period was forced to serve the extra minutes at the beginning of the third period.

Kootenay scored both of their goals on the power play going 2/9 with the man advantage. The Raiders were 0/2 and have gone without a power play goal through the last 15 chances.

They did end one drought. Darcy Zharichuk got in front of a bad pass through the Kootenay crease to score the Raiders first goal in 190:08 of playing time midway through the first period. Simon Stranksky got the Raiders other goal just over a minute later with a patient move through the slot before banking his shot in off the post.

Goalie Rylan Parenteau was sensational. Many of his 28 saves came during the four 5-on-3 power plays. He also robbed Jaedon Descheneau on a shorhanded breakaway in the first period and foiled the Kootenay sniper on another breakaway in overtime. Parenteau increadibly was left out of the three star selections.

Raiders Assistant Coach Kelly Guard told the 900 CKBI post game audience they are still playing too much on the perimiter and not getting enough traffic in front of opposition goaltenders. He also gave Parenteau high priase for giving the Raiders a chance to win.

The start of the second period was delayed for several minutes by a gate malfunction at the Raiders bench and an apperent Kootenay goal late in the second period was called back during one of the 5-on-3 power plays when after a long video review it was determined the puck never crossed the goal line.

The Raiders close out the marathon seven game in eleven night road trip to B.C. and back Saturday night in Medicine Hat where former Raider Gage Quinney who was traded to the Rockets along with Josh Morrissey on Wedneaday night, scored the winner Friday night in the Rockets 4-2 victory. Jesse Lees and Austin Glover made their Raider debut’s in Kootenay.

All Raider games can be heard on 900 CKBI.
