Students throw pies in school staff faces for good causes

The fundraising campaign was organized by the school leadership council. The council’s two co-presidents took the lead in organizing the fundraising activities. Jaelyn Prediger, one of the council’s co-president’s explained this year they hoped to get more people involved and were successful.

“Overall, I’d say it’s really good to see the level of student involvement, it’s probably one of the bigger years for us,” she said.

Prediger said they decided to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation because they felt it was a good cause to support.

“Raising money for cancer research, we just thought it would be a good thing to put our money towards for sure,” she said.

The leadership council co-president has been affected by cancer, as her grandfather is currently battling the disease.

“It’s kind of nice to be able to see where the money can go,” Prediger said.

The most popular target for those who threw pies was the school’s principal, Mark Phaneuf who shared high praise for the event.

“It’s just really in good taste and fun. They want to raise some money for cancer awareness and really Terry Fox has amplified giving back to your community and raising awareness,” he said.

Phaneuf said he was impressed with the amount of money the students were able to raise through their efforts.

“We have a generous community here in Prince Albert and we’ve always had very generous and student body and staff at École St Mary High School,” he said.
