Regina a step closer to first strip club under new regulations
The first strip club in Regina under new provincial rules looks closer to becoming a reality.
A report from city administration is recommending the peeler bar be approved at the site of the old Whiskey Saloon in the city’s northeast on Park Street.
The report outlines how the adult entertainment establishment meets proper distance guidelines — that is, it’s far enough away from things like churches, schools and homes.
An application was submitted to the city last fall from a man in Alberta who runs a strip club near Edmonton.
These types of establishments can only go on land that’s zoned industrial. New provincial law would see alcohol allowed to be served at the club while performers strip. However, they still can’t get fully naked.
The city’s planning commission will vote on whether to approve the recommendation at its next meeting on Wednesday. If given the go ahead, city council will ultimately determine the club’s fate at its meeting Jan. 26.
