Men’s Program Stepping Up Starting This Week

Jan 11, 2015 | 2:32 PM

Catholic Family Services of Prince Albert is pleased to announce that it will be offering a new program in 2015.

The program is Stepping Up: Men Developing Healthy Relationships.

Stepping Up will give men in and around Prince Albert the opportunity to learn how to build healthy relationships.  This curriculum for the new program was developed in collaboration with staff at the Ministry of Justice – Prince Albert Community Corrections and Setting the Stage.  Funding to run two sessions of the 13-week program was provided by Northern Lights Development Corporation.

The program addressses all types of abuse, including physical, emotional and mental.

Keri Okanik, Community Plan Coordinator with Setting the Stage Project said, “Throughout our year of community consultations, we were told over and over again that there was a need for programming for men who abuse their partners.  This was not offered anywhere in Prince Albert. We are pleased to partner with PACC and CFS to create a new program which is greatly needed in our community”.

Louise Zurowski, Executive Director of CFS, said, “We are excited to offer Stepping Up to our community and are extremely grateful to Northern Lights Development Corporation for providing the funds to run this program.  We believe Stepping Up will fill a great need in Prince Albert and area, and we look forward to working with other community agencies who have clients who will benefit from Stepping Up”.

Stepping Up will run once a week, on Thursdays, beginning January 15 and will run for thirteen weeks.

There is no registration fee.

The program will be guided by two experienced facilitators, Nicole Rancourt and Jon Hopper. Both have extensive experience in working with men who have been abusive in their relationships and who now want to build healthier relationships. The program  will be limited to 10 participants and each participant must self-declare to be abusive.

Potential participants may register by calling CFS at (306) 922-3202 or by email at rose.cfspa@sasktel.net.
