9 men appear in court after police raids

Nine men charged after a series of police raids in Saskatchewan and Alberta were in Saskatoon Provincial Court Friday.

All nine were appearing for bail hearings.

Among those who were in court was Mark Michael Nowakowski, 44, alleged to be the president of the Fallen Saints motorcycle club in Saskatoon.

Nowakowski is charged with aggravated assault. His lawyer said they are expecting more charges against him as police continue their investigation.

But Nowakowski won’t have to wait in jail to find out what those charges might be. He was given bail after agreeing to put up $10,000 and abide by several conditions. Among the conditions of Nowakowski’s release: he’s not allowed any contact with members of either the Fallen Saints or Hells Angels motorcycle clubs and he’s not allowed to go to either group’s clubhouse.

Carl Troback was released on $3,500 bail and Bradley Mann and John Fekete were each released on $2,500. Also released on bail were Christopher Lester and Layne Boorman, who were each required to put up $5,000. All the men were released with conditions similar to Nowakowski. They are subject to curfews and forbidden to contact any member of the Fallen Saints or Hells Angels.

All are appearing later this month, as are three other men who had their bail hearings pushed back during Friday’s proceedings.
