Tapestrama weaves cultures together in P.A.

An eclectic cultural festival runs this weekend.

The annual Tapestrama event will bring in food, music, dancing and much more from several different countries.

Michelle Hassler with the Prince Albert Multicultural Council said the festival will offer several multi-cultural offerings across two days.

“It’s just a very wonderful event that you can see different cultures in one place gathering together to celebrate diversity, inclusion and understanding,” she said.

Hassler said the event is a way of exploring the world without having to leave P.A.

“If you’re interested in travelling, but you don’t have the means to do that anytime soon, coming to Tapestrama you kind of get the taste of some cultures that comprises Prince Albert and the surrounding area,” she said.

Hassler said performers and contributors to the event are either locally-based or are coming in from other centres.

“Most of our food vendors, artisans and table display artists are Prince Albert and area based. Some of our bands and groups are also local but we’re also bringing in others from Saskatoon and Regina,” she said. 

Tapestrama began in June of 1975 and was coined after the word ‘tapestry’ to highlight different pieces, or cultures, coming together to create a whole.

It will be held at the Plaza 88 Event Centre and runs Saturday and Sunday. Entrance is free and the event starts at 11 a.m.
