Accused denies allegations at sex assault trial

A 23-year-old Prince Albert man facing charges of sexual assault and sexual interference, denied all allegations against him this morning during the second day of his trial. The accused pleaded not guilty to two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference, which were alleged to have occurred at a farm near Prince Albert between 2014 and 2015.

The young man, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl who he was supposed to be babysitting. Yesterday the complainant, whose identity is also protected, took the stand as the only Crown witness and testified the accused molested her during a game of hide-and-seek and later pressured her into sex on three occasions.

Today the accused flatly denied ever having sex with the girl, and said he had never had so much as a private conversation with his accuser. He said he was working, attending school and caring for his infant daughter at the time of the incident, which meant he was almost never alone. He did visit the complainant’s residence frequently, he said, but was never asked to babysit, never played hide-and-seek and spent his time at the farm outdoors performing chores.

“[The allegations] are not true,” he said. “I was too busy of a guy to do anything.”
