Preliminary hearing set for accused in Cory Brown murder

As multiple court dates have come and gone, the proceedings for the man accused of killing Cory Brown are now moving closer to a potential trial.

Trevor Cook, 41, was arrested and charged for second-degree murder in the death of Brown, 43, in September. Cook has been in custody since, without applying for bail.

A pre-trial is now in the books for March. At that hearing, counsel will present any evidence which a jury could consider at trial, said Cook’s representation Greg Chovin.

Cook opted for a trial by jury at Prince Albert Provincial Court this week.

Brown was found dead in a West Flat home on Sept. 6. He had been visiting Prince Albert soon after moving to Saskatoon to live with his girlfriend, his family said.

Brown’s family has maintained they’d never met Cook before his first court appearance, and don’t know how Brown ended up in his company the night he died.

Their Facebook page in Brown’s memory remains active, with his brother Curtis recently posting to the page.

“Thank you again on behalf of the entire family for all the support from everyone. We may have not told each and everyone how much it means for us, and to show how much love is for Cory, and the search for justice with his murder. Thank you, and [G]od bless each and everyone of you,” he wrote.

A preliminary hearing has been set for June 2,3, and 4th.
