Laurent Brossoit, Connor McDavid lead Oilers past Hurricanes 4-0
SASKATOON — Laurent Brossoit and Connor McDavid sent a partisan Edmonton Oilers crowd home happy on Wednesday night in a pre-season NHL game in Saskatoon.
Brossoit made 30 stops and McDavid scored twice and picked up an assist as the Oilers downed the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 before 10,387 spectators at the SaskTel Centre. Brossoit said he felt comfortable and was pleased to go the distance in the Edmonton goal.
“It feels really nice especially after just getting a couple of half games and then the one full,” said Brossoit. “It was nice to go in there for the first couple of times in a full game scenario. It felt nice to be able to stay focused throughout.”
After the Oilers took a 2-0 lead in the first period, Brossoit saw his workload increase in the second with the Hurricanes outshooting the Oilers 13-4 in the period. His two best saves came early on, turning away Hurricanes left-winger Sebastian Aho on a breakaway and making a smart stop on a tip chance on right-winger Valentin Zykov.
