Volunteers working to get produce to northern communities
Some northern communities will soon get some free produce.
Two Ontario-based organizations, Southwestern Ontario Gleaners and Crossroad Canada partnered with Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) to distribute approximately 45,000 pounds of produce to the northern communities which make up the nation.
“Everything is either oversized or undersized and it’s just not pretty for the stores and so it would be left in the fields to rot, so this is an opportunity to feed the northern community of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation,” Beverly Hadland of Crossroad Canada said.
Crossroad Canada is a Christian organization that helps with relief and development and operates faith-based broadcasting and media in Canada. Southwestern Ontario Gleaners is an organization aiming to provide produce to people who have difficulty accessing it. The gleaners were responsible for preparing and cleaning the produce.
