Saskatoon identical triplets celebrate first birthday

Mar 7, 2015 | 12:33 PM

Dressed in matching navy blue shirts and polka-dotted pants, Aubrey, Madeline and Sophie Pocha all have their blue eyes fixed on dad, Andrew, as he holds a fuzzy stuffed animal.

The girls are the first case of identitcal triplets on record in Saskatoon. The trio were born March 10, 2014 and will soon celebrate their first birthday.

“They’re doing really well, very healthy, happy, growing lots,” Andrew said.

For mom, Teri-Lynn, the time has flown by.

“It has been really fun. I can’t believe it has been a year,” she said.

Although the girls are identical, Teri-Lynn said she can tell them apart.

“They look different to me. There are quite a bit of similarities, but I find that they look different,” she said.

The triplets are also starting to develop their own personalities.

“Sophie is quiet and sweet, Madeline is crazy and all over the place and Aubrey is loud,” Teri-Lynn laughed as she talks over Aubrey’s baby chatter.

Andrew has a bit more trouble telling the three apart, but said it’s always fun to come home to triple the amount of love.

“I like coming home from work and having all three crawl up to the door just really excited to see me,” he smiled.

Teri-Lynn said she can already see the close bond the girls are developing.

“They just recently started, when they wake up, they’ll reach for each other through the crib bars and talk to each other.”

Both parents said the support from family and friends through the first year has been amazing.

“That’s what actually made the year manageable for us, was how much everyone helped,” Andrew said.

Around 70 people are expected to help the triplets celebrate their birthday.

Although Andrew and Teri-Lynn have their hands full at the moment, they aren’t ruling out adding another member to the family.
